Motivation for
The CELL Initiative

Research shows that after college graduation and during
their professional careers, engineers and computer scientists are often placed in management positions or leadership
roles such as team leader, project manager, and project coordinator.

The National Academy of Engineering published ÒThe Engineer of 2020: Visions of Engineering in the New CenturyÓ, which identified the importance of having more practicing engineers knowledgeable of topics such as:

¥ Principles of Leadership and Management
¥ Ethical Standards
¥ Cultural Diversity
¥ Global/International Impacts
¥ Communication Skills and Conflict Resolution

It is critical to US competitiveness that future
engineering graduates possess strong
engineering skills as well as leadership
and management skills.
